During a side event held at the 77th World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland, the Society of Vascular and Interventional Neurology Mission Thrombectomy Program partnered with the G4 Alliance, Smile Train, World Federation of Societies of Anesthesiologists, American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, and the World Health Organization to highlight the importance of ensuring access to surgical care to reduce the global burden of non-communicable diseases. The event emphasized the critical role of timely access to quality surgical care in addressing non-communicable diseases and promoting global health equity.

The Mission Thrombectomy Program, with a mission to improve access to timely and quality stroke care globally, envisions a world where every person has equal access to life-saving medical interventions, particularly thrombectomy, for treating stroke. This partnership represents a significant stride towards realizing this vision, particularly for individuals who experience stroke. The potential for positive change is not just immense, but also inspiring, as timely access to surgical interventions such as thrombectomy can significantly improve outcomes for stroke patients, reducing disability and preventing fatalities.

Dr. Fredrick Echols, Executive Director of the Mission Thrombectomy Program, emphasized the inclusive nature of the partnership, stating, "By collaborating with these leading global health organizations, we are not just amplifying our efforts, but also inviting everyone to be part of this advocacy for access to surgical care, especially for those in underserved communities. This partnership represents a significant step towards addressing the global burden of non-communicable diseases through concerted advocacy and action."

Dr. Thanh Nguyen, President of the Society of Vascular and Interventional Neurology, underscored the transformative potential of ongoing collaboration, stating, "The Mission Thrombectomy Program's partnership with these esteemed organizations is a testament to the power of collective action in addressing the determinants of health and equity. We firmly believe that through our sustained collaboration, we can make a significant difference in advancing access to surgical care globally, empowering communities and individuals worldwide."

Dr. Fawaz Almufti, the Global Chair for the Mission Thrombectomy Program, highlighted that the Program was featured as an example of the impact of effective advocacy and dedication to addressing determinants of health and equity. The event underscored the critical role of ongoing global collaboration in advancing the World Health Organization's Sustainable Development Goals for 2030. It also laid a strong foundation for continued international cooperation to address the global burden of non-communicable diseases and promote equitable access to surgical care worldwide.
